In a “if I don’t laugh, I’ll cry” ironic plot twist, I suffered a pretty bad fall a few days ago while hiking with my dog and broke my right wrist, just days after publishing here about bone health.
The good news: I have great bones, per my orthopedic doctor. This is not due to nutritional deficiencies of any kind, which I sadly feel the need to defend (no one ever said being plant based makes you invincible!). I also am doing ok, mentally, because once you’ve been through hell, everything else is no biggie, comparatively speaking.
The bad news: The break was much worse than I initially thought, and by the time you get this, I’ll have already gone through surgery to help mend things. For the next 6 weeks, I won’t be able to use my hand much, and have to attend physical therapy three times a week. It’s my dominant hand (of course, right?) and I obviously use my hands daily to make a living (and, um, do everything else). I won’t be able to cook for a good while, and typing one-handed is…laborious, to say the least.
While I’m holding my own in body and mind, I do have to hit pause here and overall in my career until I’m healed. I wish I had another choice, but I’m physically incapable (and medically prohibited) to do my job for the near future. This makes me sad and frustrated, because I love my work, have bills to pay and also recognize that many of you are paid subscribers and I desperately want to provide value for your hard-earned money. If you pay for your subscription, I’ll be gifting you a free month as my way of expressing my deep gratitude for your patience and support until I’m up and chopping again.
I’ll be posting updates occasionally via Instagram and possibly here too, once I can type faster than a 3 year old again.
As always, thank you for your continued support. It means the world to me!
