If you spend any amount of time on social media, you’ll see someone extolling the benefits of greens powders, which, for the uninitiated, are exactly what they sound like: powders made primarily from dehydrated greens that are mixed into water and consumed as a health beverage. The supposed benefits are practically endless and very alluring: boundless energy, razor sharp mental clarity, increased focus, better stamina, balanced hormones, improved immunity, better mental health, a bigger home, a higher salary, a closet full of Louboutins…OK, maybe not those last few, but they make big promises.
Many of these powders seemingly pack in a lot of your daily nutritional requirements, which may take some pressure off of dietary planning. Still, you might be wondering if they’re worth the money, or if the health claims are true. You might be worried about the taste and if you’ll be able to really drink the stuff, day in, day out. Maybe you’re curious if this can be a replacement for all the fruits and veggies you keep meaning to add to your diet but…haven’t. All valid questions! I personally believe that you should never ingest any manufactured product - whether it be a food item, a supplement, over the counter meds or pharmaceuticals - without doing a little research first. Just because you saw a doctor, or dietitian, or your favorite influencer using it does not mean it’s 100% necessary for your health, or that it’s totally without risk.
