Hi Friends,
It’s been a busy few weeks around here! We had another birthday in my household (the third in 2 months!), complete with multiple celebrations, so my introvert-self is ready to cocoon after all the hosting and gathering I did from December through February. It was all joyful, happy stuff (including a visit to the always incredible American Museum of Natural History in NYC, where I snapped that photo above), but I’m ready for some prolonged quiet.
Ironically, March is my birth month, but given all the recent hullabaloo, what I want most for my “big day” is a quiet dinner at home with my girls and husband. Sweatpants, twirly pasta, green salad with a bracing, garlicky vinaigrette, and a good movie sounds about right. The rest of the month, I plan on spending my days intentionally, not biting off more than I can chew, saying no to anything that isn’t an immediate “yes”, and putting into practice the notion that rest is just as important as the items on my to-do list. Then, before we know it, it will be spring!
I hope you’re able to take some time to slow down when you need it, too. If you’re in need of some inspiration, here are some recent favorite things:
I recently asked my LA-based sister and her filmmaker husband for some solid movie recommendations, and they suggested American Fiction, which I ended up really enjoying. It was funny, thought provoking, and well deserving of its Oscar nominations.
A classic spring wardrobe essential, and it’s on sale (IMO, you can never have too many striped shirts).
I’ve been drinking the “sleepy girl mocktail” well before it was a TikTok thing, and I can attest that it’s the best. I get my tart cherry juice at Trader Joe’s, and this is my favorite magnesium powder. I cut my mocktail with a little seltzer, but you do you.
This ultra-moisturizing lip balm with a subtle, gorgeous rosy pink hue is my favorite thing in my make up bag right now.
Really loving this Maren Morris cover of “Dancing With Myself”.
As a health and appearance-conscious woman in my 40’s, I appreciated this NY Times article about whether or not dying your hair is actually safe. For the record, I admittedly color my hair 2-3x a year to cover grays, but always seek out less toxic options when possible.
This pasta is at the tippy-top of my “to-make” list. Instead of the suggested finishing swirl of chili oil, I’d spoon a little of my favorite condiment in the world on top. Yes please!
Have a wonderful rest of your week and weekends - see you next Thursday!
We loved American Fiction too. Esp. appreciated the new direction for Sterling K. Brown whom I've been obsessed with since This Is Us.
