Italy Highlight Reel: Rome, Florence and Tuscany
How we ate and adventured in Italy with two kids in tow!
I had originally booked a trip for my family to travel to Italy back in April 2020 - obviously, the trip never happened due to the pandemic. The trip was rescheduled (and canceled) several more times (all due to COVID-19 related stuff), so when we finally arrived at the airport for our trip to Rome earlier this month, it was a pinch-me moment. So much has transpired since the original planned trip, I felt really grateful to be getting on that plane in good health.
This trip marked the first time that I’ve traveled abroad with both of my children. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but kids always seem to rise to the occasion and, I’m happy to report, we had an amazing trip! We slowed wayyy down for them - normally, I’d be visiting a lot more historical sites, taking more guided tours and just just generally squeezing more out of each day. With young children, I find it’s best to let go of expectations and firm itineraries and instead adapt a more relaxed pace. This worked out well for all of us: the kids stayed happy, the adults stayed sane*. I loosened up on some of my more “rigid” rules at home (mostly relating to screen time, bedtimes and sugar) and instead just focused on having fun together.
